How much does it cost to make my site carbon-neutral?

An average website will take between 70 and 100 work hours from initial design research right through to when the site goes live - which works out to around 1-2 trees. Since each tree costs around $2.50 to plant Digerati have decided to set an inexpensive flat rate of $10 (around 4 trees) for all sites.#

Since Digerati use mostly new technology in their servers and computers, each item is relatively low-impacting in itself. Shared server carbon emission estimates are worked out based on running 40 sites off each server.

Carbon Offset Sample Table

The example below shows a sample of a medium sized website.

Description Hours Emissions*
Designer 18 0.015
Developer 1 28 0.103
Developer 2 15 0.037
Development Server 92 1.019

* Tonnes of CO2
» Designer (Laptop + Monitor), Developer 1 (PC + 2 Monitors), Developer 2 (PC + Monitor)

# The values used to calculate emission offset require a tree to grow to full maturity before it offsets the full amount of emissions, so by over compensating early, the offset is completed in a much shorter period.
